One of the new ventures for me this year is a photo booth business and last Thursday was our very first event. Seems like it took years to finally get to this first event, but I have to say, all the decisions made up to this point have been the right ones. The guests at the event absolutely loved the booth. Lots of laughter and giggling coming out of the booth as guests slipped in and out of it. In hinde sight, if the booth had not been there, I’d imagine the event would have been a typical event of folks standing around, talking about work stuff. Folks would have been in and out of the event within minutes. Having the booth there, folks stayed and really enjoyed being with one another. The booth took work out of the event and truly made the event into a social one.
About six months ago, a fellow wedding photographer and I chatted about getting a photo booth for weddings. Me being the type of person that I am, I just couldn’t settle with a basic, low end, photo booth. No way! I wanted something unique and fun that maintained that photo booth feel. Many of the lower end booths consisted of just a box with a camera inside of it. With these boxes, you could add a pipe-and-drape enclosure that some of the other local photo booth companies use. In all honesty, they felt cheap and homemade, which they are. No way was I going to put my name on something like that. So we spend many hours researching all the different higher end photo booths available. After months of deliberation, we decided on what we have today; the CapturePod. Budget wise, it wasn’t our first choice, but we wanted to provide the best photo booth experience for our customers. Period. And CapturePod felt like a great fit!
Our first event was for JCPenney, where a long time employee was retiring. About an hour before the event, I came in and setup the booth. It being our very first event, I wanted to make sure everything was going to be ready to go!
Showtime! Guests started coming in and immediately folks noticed the booth. At first some folks didn’t know what to expect. I walked the first few guests through the process of using the booth and off they went. And did it take off! So much laughter and giggling came from within the booth. We had a wide variety of goofy hats and glasses for guests to play with. It was funny just to stand next to the booth and hear folks inside, screaming and yelling at one another. Outside the booth, guests stood around the booth and watched the exterior monitor, waiting to see the latest set of photos to appear. Folks ohh’ed, ahh’ed, pointed, and laughed as the fresh set of snapshots flashed onto the screen.
If I had to describe our first event in one word, it would be AWESOME! At my wedding, we had a photo booth and many folks mentioned how much fun they had with it. For this event, I got to sit and watch first hand the enthusiasm and fun that many people had. It was just awesome 🙂 I for one am looking forward to many more events to come!
